Offence details:

Omer Ghanti engaged in conduct which was discreditable to a barrister, contrary to paragraph 301(a)(i) of the Code of Conduct, in that when practising as a solicitor he:

i) Failed to provide clients with written notification of costs;

ii) Transferred sums from client account for costs that he had known he could not justify thereby deliberately overcharging his clients;

iii) Acted where there had been a conflict or potential conflict of interest between his clients; and

iv) Utilised funds that should have remained in client account for his own benefit and/or the benefit of a third party,

in consequence of which on 20th October 2009 he was struck off the Roll of Solicitors by the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal.

Omer Ghanti failed to report promptly or at all to the Bar Standards Board that he had been found guilty ?in relation to extremely serious allegations including a finding of dishonesty? for which conduct he was struck off the Roll of Solicitors by the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal, on 20th October 2009, contrary to paragraph 905 (b)(v) of the Code of Conduct.
